Pavin Smith
The Gators lost another extra inning game because of costly errors. Gardens scored early when James Jean drove in Nick Gallo and Pavin Smith with a 2-RBI single in the first. Smith pitched six innings giving up a run in the first and then holding the Broncos in check after that. In the seventh, the Gators committed three errors allowing Palm Beach Central to tie the game. Then in the 8th Gardens committed its 4th error allowing the Broncos to win this important district game.

Joey Boyd
Junior Joey Boyd came in to relieve starter Brooks de Montluzin, who had gutted out five innings of 2 run baseball. What happened next was unbelievable!!! Boyd entered the game in the 6th inning with the bases loaded and no outs. He struck out the next three to end the Jupiter rally. That is when the marathon began. The game went 12 innings with the Warriors scoring two runs in the 12th on three Gardens' errors. The story, though, was Boyd. He threw seven innings of no-hit baseball and struck out 16 Jupiter batters. Sadly, though, his incredible effort ended in a loss.

It was Senior Night at Gardens Field and the Seniors came through with some big hits as the Gators beat Summit Christian 8-7. Senior James Jean pounded a three run home run blast on a night when he was a triple shy of the cycle. Senior Nick Oberg drove in the winning run with a walk off double in the bottom of the 7th. Sophomore Cam Romaine pitched two gutsy innings to pick up the win in relief of two Seniors Hunter Kempton and Dalton Lew.

Twelve Seniors were honored before the game. Zion Bell, Jean Cancio, Brooks de Montluzin, Evan Drew, Austin Engle, Darren Hansen, James Jean, Hunter Kempton, Dalton Lew, Cory Malki, Andres Morillo, and Nick Oberg. (See Senior Night Tab)

The Gators won a non-district game against the Falcons from Jensen Beach. Nick Oberg and J.J. Schwarz each drove in two runs and Pavin Smith drove in one with two doubles. Schwarz and Smith combined to keep Jensen Beach in check.

The Gators picked up an important District win over Wellington. Matt Williams, in relief of winning pitcher Joey Boyd, threw four scoreless innings to pick up the Save. Senior James Jean belted a two-run homerun to break open a 2-2 game.

Seniors Brooks de Montluzin and James Jean
The Gators won its 9th straight by beating District Rival Dwyer. Pitcher Brooks de Montluzin kept the power hitting Panthers in check throwing six shutout innings while scattering 3 hits. Right Fielder James Jean broke open a scoreless game in the fourth with a towering three run homer. On the week the Gators moved into the top ten of the Palm Beach Post Rankings Gardens upset the Post's Number Two rated team 7-1.

2012 FLORIDA LEAGUE INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS
The Gators bats were sizzling during this week and bolted Gardens to the Championship of the Florida League Invitational in Sanford, Florida. Senior James Jean, Tournament MVP, led the way with a homerun, double, single and drove in 5 runs. Catcher J.J. Schwarz also added another homerun and drove in 3 runs. Joey Boyd pitched 5 innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out 8.

Joe Russo gets win 400 - Great Job Coach!!!
The Palm Beach Gardens Gators handed Coach Joe Russo his career 400th win in big fashion. The Gators pounded the defending 2A State Champions, Deltona Trinity 12-0 in a game that guaranteed Gardens would be in the Championship game at the Florida League Invitational. James Jean and J.J. Schwarz each drove in 4 runs with homeruns as the Gators scored 12 on 13 hits in a five inning game. Senior pitcher Brooks de Montluzin threw a complete 2 hit shut out while striking out 9 batters.

The Gators won their 4th game in a row knocking off #6 American Heritage. Gardens rallied with three runs in the 7th to earn the win. James Jean went 2-2 and scored a run. Pavin Smith drove in the go ahead run in the 7th. Starter Brooks de Montluzin threw 4 strong innings, Matt Williams, in relief, picked up the win while Joey Boyd got the Save.

JJ Schwarz blasts 2 run homer against Cardinal Newman
The Gators won two weekday games against non-district opponents Suncoast and Cardinal Newman. Gardens exploded with 18 hits in beating the Chargers. The night before the Gators rallied with two extra base homeruns by Jean Cancio and J.J. Schwarz to beat the Crusaders.

Brooks de Montluzin and Zion Bell
The Gators knocked off Palm Beach Central, the top rated team in Palm Beach County and the number eight team in America according to USA Today. Catcher JJ Schwarz and Right Fielder Zion Bell led a powerful Gardens hitting attack. Starting Pitcher Brooks de Montluzin picked up the victory holding the Broncos in check for four 1/3rd innings. Central touched up the Gators pitching staff in the 5th and 6th inning before Nick Gallo came in to pick up the Save in a thrilling 11-9 game.

Palm Beach Gardens had three sloppy innings in which Jupiter scored 12 runs. Jean Cancio pounded his 2nd homerun of the season but the Gators were unable to do more and lost to the Warriors in a district contest.

Evan Drew threw two scoreless innings as the Gators exploded to victory over Palm Beach Lakes. The Gators scored 19 runs on 18 hits on way to a five inning game with the Rams.

Gardens won its 2nd straight game in a nail biter with Southfork. LHP Brooks de Montluzin took a no-hitter into the 6th inning with the Gators leading 1-0. He went 5 1/3rd innings giving up one unearned run on two hits. RHP Ricky Testa came in and struck out the next two batters and earned the victory in relief. RHP Joey Boyd saved the game with a solid 7th striking out 3 of 4 batters. Centerfielder Nick Horvath drove in both Gators runs with a bunt single in the 4th and a sacrifice fly in the 6th.

The Gators picked up its first victory of the year beating Boca Raton 9-4 at Gardens Field. Jean Cancio continues with a hot bat pounding a double and a triple on the night. Pavin Smith earned the win (3 innings 6 K's) leading a staff effort of Matt Williams (2 innings), Hunter Kempton and Dalton Lew.

The Gators lost its first district game to Wellington. Gardens hit the ball well but was unable to produce more than four runs. 3rd Baseman Matt Williams highlighted the night going 2-3 with a double and a single. The Gators allowed 9 walks and 2 batters hit by pitches while the Wolverines added 10 hits on way to victory.

It was a thrilling scoreless four innings at Park Vista where the Gators' Riley Colbath matched the Cobras' Brandon Rhodes pitch for pitch. Unfortunately, Vista was able to get the bats going in the 5th while the Gators could not. Shortstop Nick Oberg and 2nd baseman Jean Cancio turned another good double play and Cancio was the only batter to get to Rhodes with two hits. However, the Gators were not able to capitalize and lost 4-0.

Nick Gallo makes great over the shoulder catch
The Gators behind some outstanding defensive plays by outfielders' Nick Horvath, Nick Gallo, double play combo shortstop Nick Oberg and second baseman Jean Cancio almost won its season opener at Boca Raton. Gardens scattered six hits and scored 4 runs behind starting pitcher Brooks de Montluzin, who left the game in the fourth with the Gators leading 4-1. Gardens was not able to hold the lead and lost 6-4.

The Gators scored 3 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 6th, and one in the 7th to beat Seminole Ridge in a preseason game 8-2.
Riley Colbath picked up the win with two solid innings pitching while Darren Hansen owned the hot corner making 9 plays from 3rd base.

Palm Beach Gardens opened its preseason season with a dominate 10-2 win over Jensen Beach . Second baseman Jean Cancio swung the hot bat going 3-3 with two doubles and a solo homerun. Starting lefthanded pitcher Brooks de Montluzin fanned 5 batters in 3 innings picking up the victory.

The old batting cages and soft toss area are gone. Above is the site of the new Training Center. It sports two new batting cages and eight soft toss stations. There is a new block wall which will be used for infield drills.

Phase one of the project is complete. A special thanks to Todd Engle and the City of Palm Beach Gardens along with D.S. Eakins for their huge contribution to this project. Phase two will be to light the facility and phase three is to one day cover it with a roof.

In honor of his tireless volunteer work over the years, the executive committee has decided to honor Dennis Russo by naming the new Training Center after him. Once open, it will be known as the Dennis "Papa" Russo Training Center.
Thank you Papa Russo for everything you have done for the Gators Baseball Program.
